It’s time to remind everyone of an upcoming event in February… Reading is the Ticket!

Each Grant Elementary student will have the opportunity to earn a Silverwood Theme Park ticket by doing one, simple, fun thing: READ! Please be sure to watch for details in your child’s backpack, as there will be more specific information coming to you very soon.

Finally, if you are interested in participating in our PTO, we are always willing to take any and all help we can get. You may contact us through Grant’s main office, or simply come to a meeting. All meetings are scheduled for the 2^nd Tuesday of the month starting at 3:00 p.m. Hope to see you there!

Grant School’s TALENT SHOW

If there are any Grant students interested in participating in this year’s talent show, now’s the time to start practicing! Any student wanting to perform this year must attend a MANDATORY REHEARSAL on Tuesday, February 7^th right after school for approximately 1.5 hours. No exceptions will be made for performing the day of the talent show without attending the rehearsal. We ask that students practice their talents before the rehearsal so they will feel more comfortable performing on stage in front of a crowd. No lip singing to songs will be allowed and all songs must be pre-approved (with written lyrics for review). Please keep performances to a maximum length of 2 minutes. Permission forms are available on the bulletin board near the school office and due by Tuesday, January 31^st. Families of performers are asked to bring a bake sale item for the PTO Silent Auction Fundraiser. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Mrs. Sheneman or Mrs. Mullings.

RACHEL’S CHALLENGE

Rachel Scott was the 1^st person killed in the Columbine High School tragedy on April 20, 1999. She left behind an amazing legacy and a simple challenge to anyone who will accept it – treat others with kindness and compassion and you just may change the world you live in! It is designed to help US create safer and more productive places to learn and achieve. The goal is to motivate and equip students to embrace KINDNESS and COMPASSION so that no child is left behind because of fear and violence in their school.

Come to Ephrata Middle School this Friday, January 13^th from 6:30-7:30 PM to hear Rachel’s Challenge, as well as learn about how we can all be involved in making a positive impact in the Ephrata Schools.

COUNSELOR’S CORNER with Mr. Garcia

RESPONSIBILITY: Being responsible means that other people can depend on you. You are accountable for your actions. If you make a mistake, you tend to step up and make amends without making excuses. You do your best and follow through with your agreement. This is a sign of growing up.

PRACTICE IT! When you take on your responsibilities at home (for example your chores) you are showing your parents trust, making a promise, being willing to do your part, and growing up. Most parents gage trust with more privileges later in life.

IT LOOKS LIKE: What would you do if a friend came over to play, but you have to finish your homework? What would you do if you borrowed your friend’s new dance video game and then it got all scratched up and doesn’t work?
